Bhubaneswar, Dec. 22: Alumnis of the SOA University came together for a nostalgic reunion at their alma mater on Sunday to thank their teachers and mentors while expressing their desire to contribute to the growth of the institution where they studied.
“We had a lovely time meeting old class mates and seniors, renewing acquaintances and thanking our teachers,” Abhishek Patnaik, one of the alumnis said.
Another alumni, Prasant Tiwari, who passed out of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2010, urged the University to institute a “SOA Ratna” award for an alumni excelling in any field every year. The winner should be decided by a committee, he said.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Amit Banerjee urged the alumnis to rope in other past students of the University to strengthen the alumni association saying a rolling trophy would be presented to the alumni who helped in inducting the largest number of past students into the association.
Expressing his pleasure in meeting old students, Prof. B.K.Sarap, Deputy Chairman of the University pointed out that alumnis in universities in the US contributed to the growth of their alma mater by helping in new ventures or through establishment of chairs.
Additional Dean of the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), the University’s faculty of engineering also spoke.
