Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday ordered a high level inquiry into the stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in which 12 people were killed and 20 injured.

‘Spoke to Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji. Briefed him about the incident. A high level inquiry has been ordered into today’s stampede. The Inquiry Committee will be headed by Principal Secretary (Home) with ADGP, Jammu and Divisional Commissioner, Jammu as members’-Sinha said on his official Twitter.

Ex-gratia of Rs.10 lakh each would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives due to stampede and Rs.2 lakh to injured. Shrine board to bear the cost of treatment of injured, Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor anmnonced.

Notably, the stampede broke out at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan in Jammu and Kashmir around 2.30 pm on Saturday night. People started running, trampling each other. 12 people died in this accident. More than 20 people have been injured.

Jatra at the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine resumed Saturday afternoon again.

Divisional Commissioner (Jammu) Raghav Langar told media at Katra (Yatra base camp) that the Yatra, halted for a brief period after the stampede, resumed at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
