3-member team to visit Bolangir, Kalahandi today.

Bhubaneswar, May 25: With the rise of onion price talks going high in the market, has really created a mass of tension on the government’s head. On the other hand, the allegations of distress sell of onions around the western belt has put the government in the front row to react. With this, the state government yesterday has constituted a 3-member team comprising officials from the food supplies and consumer welfare department, horticulture department and MARKFED, to verify the truth behind the same.

The team who is visiting Bolangir and Kalahandi today, will verify the allegations of distress sale of onion and report accordingly by 27th of May. Once the report comes in we can take further steps and if necessary, we will take help from the centre to procure onions from farmers through NAFED, said Food Supplies minister S N Patro, while talking to the media.

Notably, the state BJP has alleged that due to lack of proper market facility and absence of any storage facility in the area is leading to the distress sale of onions in the area.

“Though the production of onion in the state this year has marginally gone down, but that won’t be a problem. Problem may rise, if the distress sale continues with the absence of storage facilities in the area”, said sources.
