Bhubaneswar, Sept 3: Yesterday night near the Naveen Nivas, a dismissed home guard, Sandeep Hati of the Commissionerate Police made an attempt of self-immolation by setting himself on fire. He hails from the Palas Pallli area.

He attempted to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on himself and setting himself on fire. As he started running towards the Naveen Nivas, security personnel who were on duty caught him in an unconscious condition. Bhubaneswar DCP, SP and other senior police officers rushed to the spot and immediately sent him to the Capital Hospital. Later today, he has been shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.

Notably, three years back Hati had been dismissed by the Commissionerate Police on some grounds and it’s suspected that this is the reason behind his attempt of committing suicide. To this Hati allegedly said that the Commissionerate Police intentionally for seeking revenge sacked him for he had participated in a rally against the then Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Nitinjeet Singh seeking justice to another home guard for showing disrespect when he served ‘Hot Kheer’ to the DCP’s Wife but the angered lady threw the ‘Hot Kheer’ on the face of the home guard. As Hati was the one who dared to speak about the incident in front of their association, he was later sacked from his job revengefully.

The DGP KB Singh, said he would hold discussion with the Commissionerate police in this regard and investigation would take place. Enquiry would also examine that under what circumstances Hati entered into the strong security ring of the Chief Minister.
