Sum Hospital Mishap: Owner, Manoj Nayak taken into custody today

Bhubaneswar, Oct 20: The fire broke out in the privately-owned, Sum Hospital here, which took away 21 lives on Monday evening came to a final judgement when the Khandagiri cops arrested the hospital’s owner, Manoj Nayak on Thursday.

It’s stated that cases under sections 304, 308, 285 and 34 of the IPC have been registered against Nayak. At the moment, Nayak is under police interrogation. To this, DGP KB Singh informed the media that after Nayak himself surrendered before the Khandagiri police, he was taken into custody. He will be forwarded to the court once the interrogation gets completed.  He further added that police will take him on remand for further enquiry.

On the other hand, Nayak’s wife, Saswati Das will also be quizzed and can be arrested if she’s held to be guilty. In connection to the financial transactions, the three trustees of the hospital are also likely to be grilled. With Nayak been arrested, the toll reached to 5 and is likely to rise further.

Notably yesterday, the Commissionerate Police issued a look out notice against Manoj Nayak and his wife Saswati Das, who are the trustees of the Shiksha O’ Anusandhan Charitable Trust. The circular had been issued for preventing Manoj and his wife from moving out of country.

Moreover, a letter had also been sent to the Union Home ministry in this regard. The police had also conducted a raid at Manoj’s office yesterday and seized important documents. However, during the raid on his house at Dharma Vihar, police found the house locked and his mobile switched off. Thus, it’s stated that special investigation plans have been prepared based on these important documents.
