Balasore, May 12: Yesterday a surface-to-air missile named ‘Spyder’ was launched from India from a test range in Odisha from a mobile launcher at launch complex 3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur. This test-fire was a part of a series of tests of the short-range quick reaction missile. This test-fire was conducted to check the various parameters of this weapon system in order to strengthen its air defence system. It targeted a pilot-less target aircraft
‘Spyder’ is a missile system from Israel. It is a short-range, quick reaction surface-to-air missile made to attack an enemy air target in a very short time. Spyder has a strike range of 15 km in low attitude. But it is shorter than the indigenously developed surface-to-air ‘Akash’ missile that has a 25 km strike range from India.
