Talcher observes second day of 48-hour Talcher bandh

Talcher, Aug 30: Coal production has been severely affected at all mines of Mahanadi Coal Fields Ltd (MCL) due to 48-hour Talcher bandh, which began on Monday by Talcher Suraksha Manch.

On its second day on Tuesday, the economic blockade by the locals of the town has paralyzed transportation of coal to NALCO and NTPC.

Along with this, normal life in the area has also been affected with educational institutions and offices remaining close due to bandh. Protest was also seen by the agitators in front of MCL and TTPC office.

Notably, a 48-hour bandh which began at 5 am on Monday in Talcher, was launched by the Talcher Suraksha Manch demanding the fulfillment of a 12-point charter of demands. The bandh will continue till 5 am on August 31.

They demanded classes in the Talcher medical college should begin by the current year, the people who have been affected by the industrialization should be rehabilitated properly, restoration of Talcher fertilizer plant and a special coal corridor in the area.
