Bhubaneswar, April 5: The mercury is on the rise in Odisha state as temperature in eight cities was reported to be above 40 degree Celsius on Monday, while Bhawanipatna recorded the highest temperature.
While the temperature at Bhawanipatna was recorded to be 43.2 degree Celsius, at Bolangir it was 43 degree Celsius and at Hirakud it was 42.5 degree Celsius, informed the local office of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
However, the temperature in the State capital was 38.7 degree Celsius and in Silver city Cuttack it was 37.4 degree Celsius. The heat wave like conditions particularly in the western parts of the State not only has thrown normal life out of gear in these parts but brought misery for the residents. Scarcity of drinking water is the common complaint in number of areas. The residents are preferring to remain indoors and most of the streets are having a deserted look.
