Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: In a road mishap that took place on Tuesday at around 12 noon at Benta Square near Chandpur under Ranpur police limits in Khurda district, three persons identified as Shatrughana Sahu (50), Shantilata Sahu (45) and Rupali (04) died when a speeding truck hit their two-wheeler while crossing over the other side of the road.

While the couple Shatrughana and Shantilata Sahu died on the spot, their granddaughter Rupali was rushed to Tangi Community Health Centre (CHC) and was later rushed to Bhubaneswar when her condition deteriorated. Unfortunately, she succumbed to death on her way to hospital.

The vehicular traffic was badly affected on either side of the road as the irate locals had blocked the National Highway 16 to protest against the accident. Construction of road diversions and Rs 5 lakh compensation to the deceased was demanded by the locals.

The locals withdrew the road blockade stir when the legislator brought the attention of the District Collector to provide Rs 30, 000 as relief to the family members of the deceased from the Red Cross fund.

As per sources, for post mortem, the bodies were sent to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital, while the truck driver surrendered at Jankia police station.
