'Hit And Run' Case On Bhubaneswar Footpath: Labourer Killed

Bhanjanagar/Bhubaneswar: May 25:  A tourist bus overturned in Kalinga Ghat near a place called Durgaprasad on the Ganjam-Kandhamal border at around 1 am and so far six people were killed in the accident. Among them were four men and two women.

Sources said, 42 passengers sustained critical injuries. Residents rescued the injured tourists and sent them to nearby hospitals. Initially, all injured persons were sent to Bhanjanagar Hospital, and later on, as many as 14 injured tourists were shifted to MKCH Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

There were 77 passengers on the Bus including 40 men, 30 women, and some children. They had been to visit Daringbadi and after the visit, they were returning to Visakhapatnam. It is said, the vehicle lost control over the brakes near Kalinga ghat. The driver failed to steer the Bus through a sharp turn in the ghat. It first hit an electric pole and overturned.

Getting information, teams from Bhanjanagar and G Udayagiri police reached the spot and started the rescue operation. Also, Fire Service Personnel helped in the entire rescue operation which continued till Wednesday morning.
