Aurangabad: May 08: A goods train ran over the migrant workers near the Karmad Railway Station in Aurangabad District of Maharashtra early on Friday morning. Atleast 15 people were killed and few others injured.
Sources said, these migrant workers were working for a Steel Plant in the neighbouring district of Jalna. With an intention to board train to their home town, they started walking towards Aurangabad Station. They were walking on the Railway tracks heading towards Aurangabad.
After walking few kilometres, they took rest on the track between Satana & Karmad and decided to start walking towards station nextday morning. While sleeping on the track, Train ran over them.
Meanwhile, an inquiry has been ordered by the Ministry of Railways into the incident.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has annoinced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia each to families of the deceased in Karmad (Aurangabad) train accident.
The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has expressed grief over loss of lives in a rail accident in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
The Prime Minister said, “Extremely anguished by the loss of lives due to the rail accident in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Have spoken to Railway Minister Shri Piyush Goyal and he is closely monitoring the situation. All possible assistance required is being provided”.
