Tribute paid to Madhu babu on his birth anniversary

Bhubaneswar, Apr 28: The first graduate and advocate of Odisha and the architect of modern Odisha, Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das, was paid floral tributes on his 169 birth anniversary, here at the capital on Friday.

His statues across the state were offered with tributes by various social organisations and institutions. Tributes were also offered at his Samadhi at Gorakabar.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik also paid tribute to Madhu Babu at his statue inside the state assembly.

Born on 28 April 1848 in a village called Satyabhamapur, 20 kilometres from Cuttack, Madhusudan  Das popularly known as ‘Madhu Babu’ by the common people, has worked for the political, social and economical upliftment of the people of Odisha and has served his motherland as a lawyer, social reformer and patriot. He founded the Utkal Sammilani which brought a revolution in the social and industrial development of Odisha. By his long political fight he united Odisha & modern Odisha took birth on 1 April 1936. This day is celebrated as Utkala Dibasa.
