Tusker dies of injury at Udaygiri forest

Bhubaneswar, Apr 22: In a tragic incident, an elephant suffering from a mouth injury, died early today while undergoing treatment at the Udaygiri forests in Keonjhar district.

As of sources, the injury in its mouth was badly affected by maggots, which led to its death.

Yesterday, after getting informed, the OUAT veterinary officials along with the forest dept officials traced the elephant into the jungle, but the later did not allow the former to reach near. But soon after sometime, reports of the tusker been fallen had reached the OUAT team and they rushed to the spot for the treatment. After examining, the vets found out a punctured wound in it’s mouth to which maggots had affected. And this was the reason he couldn’t eat, which led to it’s death. added sources.

Moreover, the tissues in the wound were already dead and it’s tongue had turned blue.
