Paradip, Mar 9: Today in view of the coastal security, the two day joint naval exercise, Sagar Kavach held by the Indian Navy, Coast Guards and Odisha Police, concluded at the Paradip port. The exercise contained tripartite training regarding entry of intruders through coastal areas and security measures. Importance was given on providing awareness and training to the fishermen. The marine department of the port, Directorate of Fisheries, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) were part of this joint exercise. This initiative taken by the Odisha government was to secure its coastal areas following the Mumbai attack.
Coastal security has been beefed up after knowing that terrorists are intruding into the country through sea routes. Paradip ASP Gadadhar Pradhani informed the motif this two-day exercise to the media stating that it was to prepare the officials of the attack of enemy forces and when required how to meet their challenges and strike back. He further said that the outcome of the training will be analysed in later days and steps will be initiated to identify the security measures that needs improvement. On the other hand, Training Officer of Marine Police Brahmananda Swain stated that the identities of the fishermen are being checked and they are being made aware of every possible situation and emergency. The fishermen have also been asked to inform immediately if they notice any terrorists coming via sea route.
