Two held for killing de-addiction counsellor

Bhubaneswar, Jan 3; Commissionerate police has arrested two inmates of the de-addiction centre ‘Prayas’ situated at Naharakanta on the outskirts of the city for allegedly killing its counsellor cum caretaker Sumit Behera.

One of the accused was arrested from Cuttack while the other was caught from Balasore on Friday, police said.

Police suspect the involvement of at least six persons in the crime and are looking for the other accused.

20-year-old counsellor Sumit Behera was killed by some inmates of the de-adiction centre on December 29.

Behera, who had been working as caretaker and counsellor at the centre for the last three years, was tied up and battered mercilessly before being strangulated to death by a group of inmates who had hatched a plan to escape from the centre.

Another staff of the de-addiction centre was also beaten up and tied up even as 36 inmates snatched the keys and made away.

According to police, the escape plan was hatched by a a new batch of 12 inmates, who had been admitted to the facility recently.
