Cuttack, Dec 20: Two teachers of the madrasa run by Abdur Rehman, a suspected Al Qaeda operative have been detained by the police for interrogation, while the school has been vacated and students sent back home by the district administration, on Saturday.
The district administration today handed over all the students of suspected Al Qaeda operative Abdur Rehman-run madrasa to their guardians in presence of police.
According to police sources, around 60 students from Jharkhand and rest from Odisha were studying in the Tangi based Islamic seminary, a question mark has been raised against legal status of the madrasa as it is not recognized as per norms by the Odisha Urdu Board.
Meanwhile, two teachers of the madrasa have been detained for interrogation by police at Jagatpur police station.
Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra on Thursday had directed the district education officer (DEO) of Cuttack to submit a detailed report on the muslim seminary.
Notably, Odisha Police on Friday had said that suspected Al Qaeda terrorist Abdul Rehman, who was arrested in Cuttack on Wednesday, had received money in his bank account from London.
The police has seized all bank accounts of Rehman, who was arrested in a joint operation by Odisha and Delhi police in Cuttack on Tuesday night.
Rehman, a member of Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), is currently in 12-day custody of Delhi police.
