Asika, Oct 17: Due to unavailability of a hearse at Asika community health centre (CHC) in Ganjam district, a woman’s body had to be carried on a rickshaw last night even though a guideline for transportation of corpses had been issued by the State government less than a fortnight ago.

As per reports, the woman identified as Chanchala Swain of Kalasandhapur died at the Aska CHC last night while undergoing treatment for kidney ailments. The family members of the deceased had to carry the body on a trolley rickshaw till their house after realizing unavailability of hearse or any other vehicle at the hospital.

As per sources, the state government has made a guideline in which the ambulance service to carry bodies provided by the Aska Police Samiti will be given after getting information from hospital authorities. However, the kin of the deceased could not avail the facility as the CHC authorities didn’t inform police regarding the incident.

Dr. Mohan Barik, Medical in-charge of the CHC when asked about the incident said that they are yet to receive the guideline issue by the state government.
