Bhubaneswar: May 18: Odisha celebrated International Museum Day here at State Capital of Bhubaneswar today. On the occasion, Odisha State Museum adhering to the spirit of the International Council of Museums (ICOM)’s theme for this year, ‘Museum and Cultural Landscapes’ had organised a seminar on the subject and many eminent persons & intellectuals of the state have participated in this seminar. To make this a memorable day, Museum authority had also organised an Art Camp on Terracotta involving 150 no of students.
Superintendent-in-Charge of Odisha State Museum informed in a Press release that, two renovated galleries on Archaeology and Natural History are opened for public from today. These two galleries with rich and varied collections depict the great cultural heritage and tradition of people of Odisha. Also, an exhibition on six primitive tribal groups of Odisha was organised which depicts the whole life style of our primitive tribal groups. Minister Tourism and Culture Askok Kumar Panda has witnessed the celebration as Chief Guest.
Notably, every year since 1977 International Museum Day is being organised worldwide on the 18th May. The day is celebrated in order to create an awareness on how important Museums are in the development of Society. International Council of Museums (ICOM) decides the theme every year which is adopted by all countries involved. In recent years, International Museum Day has been experiencing its highest involution with almost 35000 Museums that organised activities in more that 145 countries.
