Bhubaneswar: May 29: Chief Secretary of Odisha Aditya Prasad Padhy reviewed the road safety measures in Odisha and directed the works department and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to take care of the major black spots within two months. National Highway Authority of India was asked to act promptly on the observations of the Supreme Court Committee and do corrective measures on the black spots on National Highways. Government also urged the Police Department to take up the ‘no helmet no fuel’ initiative as public movement and it will be implemented as Petrol Outlets as a road safety measure. Government has already set up 8 trauma care centres in various parts of the state to take care of the accident victims and another 8 to be set up, Padhy said. Other issues discussed in the review meeting are identification of black spots, checking drinks and drive, suspension of driving licences of habitual traffic offenders, establishment of trauma care centres. Driving licenses of drivers committing more than 5 offenses were being suspended. Till date, 18000 licenses have been suspended.
