Bhubaneswar: June 03: A group of artistes from Kerala gave an artistic sneak peek of that state at a classical dance festival at Rabindra Mandap on Thursday by performing arts koodiyattam and koothu. A mizhavu player, Suresh kaliyath presented several compositions on the traditional copper drum. Suresh, the winner of Swami Vivekananda Yuva Pratibha puraskar 2015, pointed out that mizhavu is the main percussion instrument for Koodiyattam, Chakyarkoothu and Nanguyarkoothu, the three art forms of Kerala. He started training to play this instrument in 1997 and has given performances in 15 countries abroad.
Mohiniyattam, based on the legend of lord vishnu appeared as mohini to steal the nectar of immorality from demons, was also performed by the artistes of Kerala. Laxman and Satrughna, masters of martial art, performed Kalaripayattu, the martial art form of Kerala.
