New Delhi: April 27:  Targeting to corner Congress, BJP on Wednesday sought an explanation from Congress on Agusta Westland Deal and opposition party asked BJP, ‘why the Modi government had cancelled the process of blacklisting the firm’.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy took Sonia’s name during the Rajya Sabha proceedings and said, Sonia Gandhi had been named in the court proceedings into the allegations of corruption in the Agusta Westland deal in Italy, which led to a large uproar in the house by the Congress Members.

Reacting on the issue, Congress President Sonia Gandhi said, ‘I have nothing to hide. Let them take my name.’ She said further, ‘These allegations are false, an inquiry is there, why don’t they complete it as early as possible.. and impartially?

The UPA government had signed a deal with Agusta Westland for purchase of a dozen helicopters for VVIPs but it was scrapped after reports appeared in Italy that the firm had paid kickbacks to Indian officials to go ahead with the deal.
