Bubaneswar, April 4: The Odisha Biological Product Institute (OBPI) at Siripur in Bhubaneswar has registered 40 per cent hike in production of 2,35,98,000 doses Haemorrhagic Septicemia, Black Quarter, Anthrax, Enterotoxaemia vaccine and Ranikhet disease vaccine in 2015-16 and created an all time record.
Notably, OBPI plays a key role in lowering the mortality, morbidity and production losses in animals and birds by producing quality vaccines.
The Institute also ensures regular supply of vaccine to field institutions in time for preventive vaccination of animals and birds owned by the farmers to prevent occurrence of contagious diseases in livestock.
OBPI produces high quality HS vaccine through modern technology, said sources.
Besides combating infectious diseases like FMD, PPR, Goat Pox, Brucella, Theileriosis, OBPI plays a significant role in procuring vaccines from outside the state in large quantity to meet the field demand at the time of need.
During the 2015-16 fiscal, 1,38,70,100 doses of vaccine such as Foot & Mouth disease, Goat Pox, PPR were procured from reputed sources from outside the state. The procurement of vaccine was 18 % higher as compared 2014-15.
Vaccines protect not only the animals already vaccinated but also others animals in the herd.
