Bhubaneswar, Jan 21 : The nine-day old Junior Doctors strike was likely to be called off today after the Junior Doctors association held discussion with the State Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak here Wednesday evening.
Both the parties were ‘satisfied’ with the talk that was held under a “cordial atmosphere.”
Health Minister Nayak and Sambalpur MLA Rasheswari Panigrahi told reporters that they have urged the JDA to call off its stir though the Association said they will take a formal decision after the General Body meeting.
The 450 member-strong JDA has been on cease work since January 12 for fulfilment of its 11 point charter of demand hitting medical services hard in the Medical College and Hospital.
Resident doctors and Nursing Association of VIMSAR had extended their support to the agitating junior doctors.
The JDA demands includes installation of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, delegation of financial and administrative powers to VIMSAR, shifting of female medicine ward to a new building, strengthening of security on the medical college premises, round-the-clock water and electricity supply at the operation theatre, a labour room, a sick newborn care unit (SNCU), an intensive care unit (ICU), a new medicine ward, a canteen, hostels, an increase in library fund, recruitment of staff for the library, filling up of vacant teaching and non-teaching posts and improvement in the sanitary condition of the institute.
