Bhubaneswar, June 2: The 11th edition of dance festival “Guru Dakshina” organised by Kalashram at Rabindra Mandap, on Wednesday stood out for its unique participants.
The eye-catching Bharatnatyam performed by a group of five visually challenged dancers heading from Bengaluru captured the limelight of Guru Dakshina.
The dancers trained by gurus Mysore B Nagaraj and Dr. Suparna Venketesh, at the institution “Articulate Ability” established by the dua in 2006, presented four recitals- Ganesa Dwadasa Stotram, Pancha Brahma, Venuswana Bilola and Tillana set to different ragas and rythms.
These impeccable five artists – Buse Gowda, Guru Prasad, Taraka Ramudu, Satish Rao and Shiv Swany have given heart winning performances globally thus receiving standing ovation from the audiences.
They have also been awarded for their outstanding talent from many organisations in spite of being visually handicapped.
Nagaraj was conferred with the Guru Dakshina samman at the event.
Three other artist from Bangalore presented Kathak recitals – Palanetra, a Hindustani classical dance form.
Apart from the artists from Bangalore, artists from Orissa performed Odissi and Gotipua presentations.
These presentations were enhanced by musical accompaniment on the Pakhwaj in taal Mallika.
The three day festival would be finished off with an artiste from Kerala performing Mohinyattam on June 3, Thursday.
