Bhubaneswar, Oct 21: As the Sum hospital negligence and its carelessness comes to fore, gradually its noticed that there are hundreds of other hospitals across the state which are operating by violating norms and safety measures that too blatantly.

Starting with the capital city out of 208 hospitals and nursing homes around 180 are operating without renewing their registration. According to the DMET statistics despite of lapsed registration many hospitals are still running freely. It includes big hospitals like the 250-bedded Kalinga Hospital whose registration has expired since March this year. Another major one is the Kar Clinic’s whose registration expired in March 18, 2015.

The DMET Joint Director, Umakant Satpathy has said that as per the rules of the act, a hospital cannot be closed. The district authorities have to decide after ensuring that the existing patients are discharged and shifted. It’s stated that a squad would be formed to check other nursing homes here and those running without valid approvals will be served notice having a one month deadline and if these nursing homes fail to get the required approval then these institutions would be sealed with a fine of Rs 50 lakh and if needed a tenure of 6 months of imprisonment.
