Well marked low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal

  New Delhi: May 16: A low pressure area formed over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast at 0830 hours IST of 14th May, 2016. It lay over the same region as a well-marked low pressure area at 0830 hours IST of 15th May, 2016, official sources said.

It would move northwestwards and concentrate into a depression during next 24 hours. It would then continue to move northwestwards, intensify further into a deep depression and cross Tamil Nadu coast between Pamban and Nagapattinam around 17th May 2016 morning. It is expected to have rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls at a few places over coastal Tamilnadu and Puduchery and isolated heavy falls over interior Tamil Nadu on 17th and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu on 18th May 2016.

Rainfall at many places with isolated heavy falls and heavy to very heavy falls on 16th & 17th May is very likely over Kerala. Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph would prevail along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coast from 16th May 2016 morning for subsequent 24 hrs.

Sea condition would be rough to very rough along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coast from 16th May 2016 morning.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along & off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts during next 48 hrs .
