Puri, Feb 10: Carcass of a giant whale was found on Monday near Motagaon area in Brahmagiri area of the district.
Forest officials have reached the spot to take steps to dispose the carcass, sources said.
Notably, the carcass of a whale measuring 33 feet in length with a diameter of 12 feet was sighted at Podampetta coast in Ganjam district on February 3 while the carcass of another whale measuring 66 feet was found at Chinchiri mouth at Rajnagar in Kendrapara district two days later.
A few days ago, a dead whale was washed ashore at the Juhi beach in Mumbai while carcasses of more than 60 whales were sighted along the coast in Tamil Nadu a month ago.
The State Environment and Forest department has decided to approach the Forest and Environment (MoEF) ministry to help ascertain the cause of death of the giant water animal.
