Woman Maoist lays down arms in Odisha’s Kalahandi

Bhawanipatna, Jan 6: A woman Maoist on Tuesday surrendered before police in district headquarters town of Bhawanipatna in Odisha’s Kalahandi district.

The ultra identified as Kalamdei Majhi surrendered before the superintendent of police at his office here as she was “disgusted” over the Maoist activities.

The 24-year-old rebel had joined the banned outfit in October last year and was a member of Vamsadhara-Ghumsura-Nagabali division, sources said.

Kalahandi SP Brijesh Rai said her activities were limited to the Gundi and Khandualmali Reserve Forest areas. She decided to quit the outlawed group as she was disgusted over the Maoist activities. Besides, she was also harassed by senior cadres.
