Bhubaneswar, Feb 7:  National Federation of Fishers Cooperatives Ltd. (FISHCOPFED) has mooted creation of a database of fisheries cooperatives and make those available easily online. National Federation of Fishers Cooperatives Ltd. (FISHCOPFED) Managing Director Bimal Kumar Mishra said on Friday at a workshop that the FISHCOPFED will collect detailed data of the fisheries cooperatives across the country.

“We have organised the workshop to discuss how the data about all the fisheries cooperatives will be easily available on computers”, he said adding the FISHCOPFED surveyed all the fisheries cooperatives of the country five years ago.

“If the detailed data about the fisheries cooperatives is made available on internet, it will be easier for us to execute programmes for welfare of the fishermen,” he said.  The database on the fisheries cooperatives will be updated every year for which software experts will be provided to the fisheries cooperatives, Mishra added. He also lauded the State for the insurance scheme.

Fisheries Joint Director Shailendra Kumar Dwivedi said that the cooperative has not achieved that much success in Odisha like Amul in Gujarat. “This is an era of Information & Technology. We cannot walk on the ladder of success if we did not move forward in time,” he added.
