YB Khurania is new Twin-City police commissioner

Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: The state government appointed Y B Khurania as the new commissioner of police of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Khurania is likely to assume office, replacing R P Sharma, a day after Republic Day.

Khurania, a 1990-batch IPS officer, has served as SP in the districts of Nayagarh, Jajpur, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj and Rourkela.

Khurania was later posted as DIG, Southern Range, Berhampur, and Additional Commissioner of Police, DIG-Northern Region.

At present, Khurania is director (in-charge), vigilance. Sharma will take over the rein from Khurania as the new vigilance chief of Odisha.

Sharma, a 1986-batch IPS officer, has been promoted to the rank of DGP and given the new assignment in the vigilance directorate.

The state government also promoted another 1986-batch IPS officer B K Sharma to the rank of director general. Sharma, who was ADG (Crime Branch), will retain the same post as the Special DGP.

R P Sharma, who had earlier served in the Narcotics Control Bureau and National Security Guard, joined as commissioner of police of the twin cities on August 12, 2013.
