Bhubaneswar, Apr 1: To connect students with blindness with information technology, Department of Social Security & Empowerment of PwD (SSEPD), Government of Odisha has taken initiative to provide Laptop at free of cost. 108 Laptops with JAWS Software to such students have been distributed on 30 st March 2016 in a function held at VRC for Handicapped (VRCH), Gandamunda, Bhubaneswar.
Chief Guest Smt. Usha Devi, Honourable Minister, Department of SSEPD, Government of Odisha said that Honourable Chief Minister of Odisha Sri Naveen Patnaik has created this new department to have focused attention for rehabilitation and empowerment of PwDs of the state. Now, Odisha is in front row of that progressive government, who have created a separate department. Government will take all initiatives for comprehensive development of PwDs and distribution of 108 laptops to students with blindness is good initiative in this direction.
Sri Niten Chandra, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of SSEPD, Government of Odisha said that the Laptops will certainly help the students with blindness not only in their higher education but also connecting them with information technology , which is one of the biggest knowledge source and now integrated part of personal and professional life.
Ms. Mansi Nimbhal, IAS, Director, Department of SSEPD, Government of Odisha urged that the student to utilise the laptop properly to enhance their knowledge and skill through information technology leading to empowerment and contribute to economy of family and country.
The beneficiaries appreciated this unique initiative of Department of SSEPD, Government of Odisha.

Sri Niten Chandra, IAS, Principal Secretary and Ms. Mansi Nimbhal, IAS, Director was the Guest on Dais. Mr. Ram Kishor Sharma, Assistant Director (Employment), VRCH, Bhubaneswar delivered the welcome address and Sri Deba Prasad Dash, OAS (S), Joint Secretary, Department of SSEPD proposed the “Vote of Thanks”. Sri Ambika Prasad Patnaik, Under Secretary to Government & Sri Asit Pani, Section Officer of Department of SSEPD were also present in the event.
