Cuttack, Aug 25: Protesting against the students’ clash that took place at the Banki Autonomous College on August 22, the locals staged a 12-hour Banki bandh today that brought the normal life of people in Banki to a standstill.

Due to the bandh, the shops and other establishments remained shut. Vehicular movement was also prohibited in the locality. People burnt tyres in some places and staged road blockade.

Demanding the arrest of the students who were involved in the group clash at the college, the people from the nearby villages also took part in the protest. Besides, if the demand is not fulfilled, the protesters warned by saying that they would intensify their stir in the coming days.

Notably, outrage had erupted at the College when a violent strike took place between two groups of students inside the college premises. It’s stated that an argument led to the strike between the two due to some unknown reasons. Later, the argument turned violent leading to both groups attacking each other. As a result, around seven students from both the groups sustained injuries and were later admitted to hospital for treatment.  The college authorities had declared a Sine Die for few days and had also asked the students to vacate the hostel immediately. Also, to avoid any unwanted situation in future, police teams had been deployed at the premises.
