Bhubaneswar, Dec 10: Women and Child Development Minister Usha Devi informed in the Odisha Assembly that as many as 145 sex workers are staying in the Odisha capital city under the jurisdiction of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
The Minister said the city civic body had given this data to her department in August 25, 2011. Replying to a query of MLA Bhujabal Majhi, she further told the House that as many as 48 active sex workers are staying in the city.
The Minister said, efforts are on to make them self reliant, besides providing them water, electricity and their proper rehabilitation.
However, busting of sex rackets has become a regular affair of the Commissionerate police where sex- workers mostly non-Odia women are being rescued.
