1st innings led by Odisha against Assam on the third day of Ranji trophy played at Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Nov 16: On the third day of the Ranji Trophy at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here yesterday, Odisha took a massive lead in the first innings against Assam. This became possible under the brilliant captaincy of Gobinda Poddar who made a double century and also because of the century strike made by Biplab Samantray. At draw of stumps, Deepak Behera and Suryakanta Pradhan were batting with 28 and 2 runs respectively.

As it had an overnight score of 150 for 2, Odisha started playing yesterday on an extremely careful note. Poddar who had a score of 81 and was still in the game, went on to make his first double century (225) in his Ranji career. Samantaray scored 103 thus also making a ton. Thus, Odisha were 459 for 7 whereas it was 301 was Assam. Today being the last day of the match, it seems that it would be a tie between the two.

However, Odisha will earn more points on the basis of their first innings lead against Assam.
