Sambalpur, July 19: When around 20 BJP activists, including district president Ramachandra Meher were preparing to protest during the visit of Textile minister Snehagini Chhuria to Odisha city, they were taken into preventive custody. The party members waved off black flags on the road before the minister’s arrival and on being requested by the police to no to do so, they denied the plea completely which led to a violent confrontation between the security forces and the protestors. The protest by the BJP against the minister was because of the attack by the BJD workers on Santosh Gangwar and his party members.
Notably, at the time of Vikas Utsav, Gangwar’s vehicle was damaged by workers of the ruling BJD in Bargarh town on June 23, which was organized to highlight the achievements of the Narendra Modi Government’s in the last two years. Vehicles of Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda and BJP Odisha unit president Basanta Panda, were also among the procession.
Despite the protest by the BJP workers, Minister Chhuria still attended a programme at Sambalpur Press Club.
