Bhubaneswar, April 21: Odisha Commerce and Transport Minister Ramesh Majhi has directed officials to conduct regular check of the fitness certificates of the buses plying in the State.
The driving licenses of the bus drivers will also be checked and all the Regional Transport Officers in the State have been instructed to submit the report within one month, Majhi told reporters on Wednesday.
The minister’s directives comes in the wake of the bus tragedy in Bargarh district on Sunday night which claimed 27 lives.
Earlier, Majhi had sought a detailed report from Deogarh Regional Transport Officer (RTO) on the tragedy and it came to light that the bus’ fitness certificate had expired two years ago.
