246 Foreign Returnees To Odisha Test Covid Positive; Samples Sent For Genome Sequencing

246 people are found to be Covid-19 Positive, who have returned from ‘At Risk’ countries. Samples of all have come to ILS for genome sequencing, informed ILS director Ajay Parida. Earlier, genome sequencing of 141 samples were conducted, but no omicron cases found.

As said, so far more than 800 people have returned to Odisha from abroad. Forty percent of these foreign returnees could not be located, said Bijay Panigrahi, Director, Family Welfare.

Source said some returnees have entered wrong addresses and contact information in Air Suvidha portal.

ILS Director said, “We have received some samples from Burla and Rayagada and by Friday, we will be in a position to say whether any of the foreign returnees is infected with the Omicron variant’.
