Mohana, Jan 19: Yesterday due to the protest held by the villagers at the Baghamari panchayat of Mohana block in Gajapati, the verification of nomination papers could not be held. The irate people of Baghamari village had locked the Baghamari Panchayat office protesting the brutal murder of a woman, Mini Dalabehera, who had filed her nomination as a Congress candidate for the post of sarpanch of Baghamari panchayat. Following the protest by the villagers, the Treasury Officer who was assigned to verify nomination papers had to return to the district headquarters.
Post mortem reports of woman Sarpanch candidate for Baghamari Panchayat, Mini Dalabehera whose half-burnt body was recovered inside Sagada hill forest in Gajapati district on Monday have come out revealing her death as a murder. The doctors of Forensic department of MKCG Medical college and hospital, who did the forensic test revealed that, she was first murdered and then burnt. The victim’s body had multiple injuries in her body, however no evidence of rape was found during the post mortem as the genital part of the body was burnt, said sources.
Though Mini had no enmity in the Panchayat since last 7-8 years, as of her father, but she became a mess for the opposition, the day she filed her nomination as a candidate. While the police have started their investigation questioning the villagers, a dog squad had also conducted on-spot investigation. The assailants are yet to be nabbed, said sources.
To be noted, Mini had filed her nominations on January 11 as a Sarpanch candidate for Baghamari Gram Panchayat. On Jan 13, she went to the Canara Bank at Chandragiri and had not returned since. Her body was later recovered on Monday, inside the Sagada hill forest near Jiranga village. Besides Dalabehera, two other candidates had also filed their nominations.
