Malkangiri, Jan 15: Four Maoists were killed in a gun battle with police in Gangalur forest of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh bordering Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Friday.

Huge cache of explosives was also seized from the forest, police sources said.

The fire exchange took place in the early morning. The remote, underdeveloped region of Malkangiri-Bijapur border is believed to have been a maoist stronghold.

Chhatisgarh police sources said, the security forces had launched a search operation acting on an intelligence tip-off that the Maoists were in the forested Ganglaur area, where the shoot-out occurred.

Officers are still searching for weapons and the bodies of any more rebels killed in the incident, sources added.
