‘Music in Park’ on eve of Utkal Diwas hosted by BDA in Odisha capital; Anoop Mishra to perform

Bhubaneswar, Mar 30: Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will present Odissi music to mark the commemoration of the 82nd formation of Odisha as a separate state. On the occasion of Utkal Diwas, there will be several other functions among which the recitation of Odissi music will also be a eye-catching sight especially for the music lovers. The BDA has taken up a signature project for promoting quality music, named ‘Music in Park’. The Odissi music recital will be performed by the local artists and musicians on Mar 31 at Indira Gandhi Park. Another attraction of the Music in Park would be Anoop Misra, the eminent classical singer from Banaras Gharana. He will be accompanied by Aryan Misra (Vocal), Simanchal Maharana (Tabla), Pranaya Kumar Palei (Harmonium), Sumanta Maharana and Santoash Kumar Dash on Tanpura. Anoop Mishra is born on July 7, 1974 in a family of musicians. He learnt the basics from his maternal grandfather, Sangeet Acharya Pandit Hari Shankar Misra, at the age of five. However, after the demise of his grandfarther also his first Guru, he continued his learning under great Sarangi maestro, Hanuman Prasad Misra, father of renowned vocalist Pandit Rajan and Sajan Misra. Mishra has performed in many important events held in Paris, Rome, Milan and Vienna. He has been conferred with the Surmani Award in 2001 in Mumbai. The Odissi music performance will be performed in four phases, Jagannath Astakam by Sankaracharya, Raganga Parjaya with Raga  Bajra Kanti and Tala Eka Tali and song “Nikunje Jaana Braja Jubaraja Kanha’’. The lyricist is Kabi Loknath Rath.  The Natyanga Parjaya with Raga Pilu (Mishra) and Tala Khemata and song “Barijakshi Manaru Mana Baridere’’ with lyrics penned by Kabi Surya Baladeba Rath will be followed by Chhanda in another session. The Odissi recital will be performed by the students of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalay, Bhubaneswar, and well-known exponents with their traditional musical instruments like Guru Sachhidananda Das on Mardala, Guru Binod Bihari Rout on Tabla, Guru Jawahar Mishra on Flute, Guru Murlidhar Swain on Manjira and Sandhyarani Bhyuan on Tanpura will accompany the students. The music direction will be given by Guru Bijay Kumar Jena. Guru Ramahari Das, an eminent vocalist in Odissi Music is going to inaugurate the event.
