‘5284 Beggars in Odisha’

Bhubaneswar: There are 5284 beggars in Odisha, informed Minister Nityanand Gond in the Assembly today. He gave a written answer and provided a list of beggars in different districts of the State while answering a question by MLA Laxman Bagh.

The number of beggars in the state is increasing. There are a total of 5284 beggars in Odisha. Cuttack tops the list with 1,060 beggars. There are 595 beggars in Bargarh, 545 in Ganjam, 482 in Balangir, 417 in Sundargarh and 350 in Puri – the Minister informed in the Assembly.

He further informed that the government is running a campaign to make the state beggar-free. In the first phase, the Niladri Nilay is being set up in Puri and the Ekamra Nilay is being set up in Bhubaneswar, he also informed.
