Malkangiri, May 19: A major success was achieved by the police when it seized 56 gunny bags having weed (ganja) in it. These stuffed gunnies were being transported by locals into dense Badaguda forest under Mathili police limits here today. In this connection, 28 persons have been detained. As of now, the locals are being interrogated adding that there is a possibility of an involvement of the inter-state ganja racket. The special team of the district police could crack down the racket by acting on a tip. The SDPO raided the Badaguda forest and seized the bags that the locals were carrying on their shoulders for transportation. To deceive the cops, the locals used wooden poles to carry the bags in a traditional manner. The cops are now assessing the quantity of the seized drugs.
Earlier this month, over 12 quintals of weed worth Rs 50 lakh were seized by the excise officers on the capital city outskirts. The racket was busted upon raiding Kalibati area on National Highway 16 under Jankia police limits in Khurda. Two persons had been arrested and a pick-up van was also seized.
