Kendrapara, Apr 5: In a very brave incident, a six year old girl of Kendrapda jumped to the mouth of an estuarine crocodile and fought it, to save her little friend. The girl identified as Tiki Dalai (6), from a remote village of the district, showed a courageous role jumping in front of the crocodile to save her friend Basanti Dalai who is currently undergoing treatment at a Hospital for receiving multiple wounds on her hands and legs.

After Tiki’s courageous incident, the district administration (DA) of the coastal Kendrapara district has decided to recommend her name for the National Bravery Award as the “Tiny Rescuer”, said sources. Soon the DA authorities will write to the Indian Council for Child Welfare and recommend her name for the award.

Notably, early yesterday, Tiki and Basanti were taking bath at the pond where the crocodile attacked Basanti. Finding a bamboo stick next to the pond, Tiki attacked the croc’s face with it. Shocked with the sudden attack, the croc moved back into the pond, leaving Basanti in injured state. Soon she was admitted to the nearest hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

After the incident, though the water body doesn’t comes under the Bhitarkanika range, the forest officials have warned the locals to go near the pond and have declared a compensation for the Basanti’s family and would also bear the cost of her entire treatment, said sources.
