Special Court convicts former union minister Dilip Ray in coal block scam case

Rourkela, April 6: Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray on Tuesday alleged that the State Government has failed to provide adequate fund to the higher education sector and also lost huge Central assistances for inadequate infrastructure and huge vacancies in universities and colleges.

The BJP MLA while most of the universities and Government colleges are facing staff crunch, about 90 per cent of colleges don’t have NAAC status. Without NAAC tags, UGC and RUSA (Rashtriya Uchattar Shiksha Abhiyan) grants are not available, he observed.

He further informed that only three of 14 universities have NAAC tags now. Similarly due to poor infrastructure, 24 out of 34 autonomous colleges are yet to get NAAC accreditation.

He said Principal posts in all autonomous colleges are lying vacant while 36 such posts are vacant in other Government colleges

He said standards of higher education institutions will improve only when more Central funds come in. “This can be ensured only when the State Government becomes sincere towards bettering educational institutions,” Ray said.
