India started determinedly, holding Belgium off and surviving early pressure. Goalkeeper Pawan kept India level as both defences stayed firm. Belgium had two early Penalty Corner opportunities, but the Indian defence ensured the match remained goalless after the first quarter.
India started the second quarter strongly, moving the ball well and searching for a breakthrough. Yet Belgium struck first, taking the lead against the run of play through Roman Duvekot (17’). Dilpreet Singh quickly replied for India, but his goal was disallowed for dangerous play. India continued to press, but Belgium maintained its 1-0 halftime lead.
India equalized in the second half thanks to Abhishek (33’), but Belgium responded and regained the lead from a Penalty Corner by Nicolas De Kerpel (45’).
Belgium extended its lead early in the fourth quarter, as Roman Duvekot (46’) found the net to give them some breathing room. India responded by pressing for a quick equaliser and came close with a Penalty Corner in the last ten minutes. Shilanand Lakra (57’) revived India’s hopes by scoring after a cross from Rabichandra Singh. With ninety seconds left, Mohit HS made a crucial save to keep India in contention, but the equaliser remained out of reach in a fiercely contested match.
