Two people, one of them a woman, died instantly when an Ama Bus crashed into an auto-rickshaw at Rupali Square in Bhubaneswar around noon on Saturday. According to sources, the bus struck the auto-rickshaw from behind while vehicles were stopped at the busy junction.
At the time of the crash, the auto-rickshaw was behind a school bus. The collision was so strong that the rickshaw was crushed and pushed forward, hitting the back of the school bus and damaging it too.
The auto-rickshaw driver and a woman passenger died at the scene.
After the accident, local residents gathered at the scene to protest repeated accidents involving Ama Buses. Police arrived quickly to control the crowd and calm the upset residents.
Sources said police cordoned off the accident site to recover the bodies, and traffic was diverted to avoid more congestion at the junction. As of the latest reports, the Ama Bus driver and conductor had fled, and police were trying to find them.
