Gadkari lays foundation stone of 72-km highway

Moubhandar (J’khand), Jan 27: Union Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari Wednesday laid the foundation of Mahulia-Baharagora highway in the copper-township of Moubhandar, about 40 km from Jamshedpur, under Ghatsila sub-division.

The 72-km highway on NH 33 and NH 6 in East Singhbhum bordering West Bengal will be developed at a cost of Rs 900 crore.

Bids have been received and are under evaluation as the work on the project is likely to start by first week of April.

On the occasion, Gadkari promised to double the length of National Highway from existing 2661 km in Jharkhand. “We have plans to implementment various highway projects in Jharkhand and a ‘multi-model water port’ on Ganga in Sahebgunj district worth total Rs 50,000 crore by December, subject the state government would prepare and place before the ministry the detailed project report,” Gadkari said.

Work on the project is expected to be completed in 30 months from the appointed date.The state Principal Secretary (Road construction) Rajbala Verma assured to place the DPR for projects worth Rs 30,000 crore in the next three months time.

Besides, the government is building 18 km highway every day as compared to 2 km by the previous government, Gadkari said adding that the figure would be raised to 30 km per day by March.
