Bhubaneswar, Feb 8: A first of its kind in the entire Ganjam district, Dutch rose and Orchid flowers are being raised through totally conserved net housewith the help and commitment of the local Horticulture Deputy Directorate and local youth enthusiasts. The flowers can stay fresh for longer periods of time, said a farming expert.

In the district local flowers were raised in 360 hectare area but looking at the rising demands in the market Dutch roses are being raised in almost 14,000 square feet and Orchid is being raised in 4,000 square  feet.

While the government is paying almost 70 per cent of the funds required, it will benefit the farmers who have to regularly face the brunt of dry weather amid less rainfall and subsequent cultivation loss as most of the farming community prefers paddy cultivation, said Dr Bhagaban Das.
