Bhubaneswar, Feb 10: An old woman was trampled by an elephant at a forest in Sundargarh district on Monday.
Sabitri Sa of Amasdighi village under Dharuadih Police Station died after the tusker crushed her.
According to sources, Sa along with two women and a male had gone to Amasdighi forest for collecting Sal leaves and was returning when the tusker came in front of them and attacked Sa while the others managed to flee.
Forest Range Officer DK Digal said Rs 3 lakh as compensation was declared for her out of which Rs 5,000 has been already paid for her final rites and rest will be given after completing formalities.
