Talcher –Kaniha, Feb 10: As many as 306 Upper Primary and High School students of periphery villages were today awarded scholarships by NTPC Talcher Kaniha as part of its Coroporate Social Responsibility.
The students belonged to 63 schools of 55 vilages.
Under this programme 396 students of 63 UP & High Schools from 55 villages have been awarded with merit scholarships.
Chief Guest Executive Director , NTPC Talcher Kaniha NK Kothari in presence of ABEO(Assistant Block Education Officer Kaniha Jagannath Sahoo & senior officials distributed merit scholarship to students.
The meritorious students of class 7th ,8 th ,9th & 10 th who have secured first three ranks in their respective classes were provided with certificate of merit & banker cheques of Rs.2250, Rs.2000 & Rs.1750 respectively.
The students were also provided with solar lanterns.
Addressing the gathering Shri Kothari said “he was very happy to interact with the children who are the future generation of the nation.
On this occasion, he shared information on CSR initiatives taken by NTPC Kaniha for the school children i.e distribution of books,furniture to schools , organising rural sports & rural cultural meet etc”.To promote clean energy ,NTPC is taking a big leap in renewable energy sector which include solar , hydro & wind said Kothari.
“NTPC CSR objective is to promote peripheral development and promoting education is one of the prime focuses of the power station” said Kothari.
Encouraging the children, he said to work hard on their education which will make them to progress in life as well as contribute to the society. He said “If you had the desire to excel, no one can stop”.
He advised the children to actively participate in sports also for overall development.
Block Education officer Joginath Sahu speaking on this occasion appreciated the initiative for promoting education which will help the school children in pursuing higher education. He said distribution of solar lanterns by NTPC is environment friendly & promotes clean energy without any air or water pollution.
General Manager (HR) Talcher Kaniha AK Ojha during his welcome address said that merit scholarship is being provided to the students with a mission to boost the future education of the children.
On this occasion, Arun Prasad, GM(C&M) Arun Prasad, GM(TS) NS Rao & CMO PK Patnaik also distributed merit scholarship. Representatives of union & association along with teachers & students in large numbers participated in the programme.
